Voter Registration: How to Begin a Jail Voting Campaign
August 10, 2017 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am
People with felony convictions, who are currently incarcerated for a misdemeanor, or are awaiting trial, are frequently disenfranchised and excluded from voting.
Participants in this workshop will learn about Ohio’s voting laws, how to build relationships with election and jail officials, and how to effectively organize a team of volunteers. Attendees will also learn about conducting absentee voting for individuals detained on Election Day and will have access to the ACLU of Ohio’s online resources such as “Voting in Jail: An Organizer’s Toolkit.”
Organizing jail voter registration drives will allow more citizens to actively participate in elections and exercise their voice. This training is part of a series the ACLU of Ohio is providing across the state to empower organizations and activists to inform detained individuals about their voting rights and register them to vote.
