Rob Portman Demonstration and Vigil
May 5, 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
Senator Portman (the real deal, not a cardboard cutout!!) will be in Cleveland on May 5 for a screening of “I Am Jane Doe,” a film about human trafficking. This is a key issue for the senator, and we are grateful for his support of five federal anti- trafficking laws that seek to serve victims and help law enforcement combat this crime.
However, we must urge him to support the people most at-risk to becoming victims of human trafficking. The victims of human trafficking are men, women, children, and adults — and they often represent our most vulnerable populations. While there is no single profile for trafficking victims, many are homeless, immigrants, or victims of domestic violence, war, assault, or conflict.
This will be a two-part event:
- At 4 p.m., we will demonstrate as people are entering the event. We invite you to bring signs with a “Stand Up” message. For example, asking the senator to “Stand up for immigrants” or “Stand up for the homeless.” We will remain until the screening officially begins at 5 p.m.
- At 8:30 p.m., we will begin a candlelight vigil for our most vulnerable populations – for victims of human trafficking, refugees, immigrants, and others who can no longer be ignored by Senator Portman. We will remain until the screening audience leaves.
In between the events, you are welcome to attend the screening, or have fun exploring the neighborhood and enjoying the many awesome establishments in Ohio City.
Please join us for one or both of these actions.
