Immigration Justice Rally
July 1, 2018 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm
An Immigration Justice Rally will be held at the United Church of Christ Congregational Vermilion on Sunday, July 1st, at 1:30 pm. The church is located at 990 State St. (Rte. 60) in downtown Vermilion.
Featured speakers will include Victor Ortiz, President of El Centro in Lorain; Chrissy Stonebraker-Martínez, Co-Director, InterReligious Task Force on Central America and Colombia in Cleveland, Ohio; and Natalia Alonso, founder of #LosNinosdeCorsos, a group of teens fighting for the children affected by the crisis in Norwalk, OH.
On Tuesday, June 5th, 114 workers at a local garden center were rounded up by more than 100 immigration agents, using dogs and helicopters. Dozens of children were left stranded at schools, day cares and with babysitters as their parents were carted off to detention centers elsewhere in the state and in Michigan.
We will have tables for writing letters to Congressional representatives about the situation in Norwalk, as well as sample letters and phone sheets to take home and share with others. Sample letters and phone sheets will also be available addressing the aftermath of the child separation policy at the border. Tables will be provided to local organizations to share
information about their work with immigrant communities.
We will be collecting donations and also collecting supplies for the drive sponsored by St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Norwalk. Especially needed are: diapers, infant formula, “Nido” brand fortified milk, and socks and underwear in all sizes.
Anyone who has questions or needs further information is invited to call the church office at 440-967-5212 or email vermilionuccc@gmail.com.
